God made all sorts of wild animals, livestock, and small animals, each able to produce offspring of the same kind. And God saw that it was good. (Genesis 1:25, NLT)
This week’s Pastor’s Gratitude Journal is offering prayers of thanksgiving to all those humans who made our Blessing of the Animals such a success! On Saturday morning, October 10, we held our annual Blessing of the Animals in the parking lot of the church. I am always so amazed at how many people in our community will come to our church with their pets so that their pets may receive a pastoral blessing. I’m also amazed at how this event seems to grow every year!
This year, as if anticipating a record crowd, Mel Aucoin got to church bright and early Saturday morning and set up a large canopy in the parking lot. Not long after, David Mains was pulling folding chairs out of the fellowship hall and lining them up under the canopy. Next thing I know, Sharon Wetzel is setting up a table with pet and human treats as Melissa Fussell Cardona from Fluffy Mutt Pet Grooming is putting out more pet treats, bowls full of fresh water and displaying lovely pet accessories. Cars passing by on West Esplanade must have thought we were having a good old fashion tent revival (for our pets) at Good Shepherd!
What a blessing! I ask you to join me in offering prayers of gratitude for all those humans who helped make this event such a success, all those humans who brought their animals to church and all those animals that bring us humans such joy into our lives!
