This week, I ask you to join me in offering thanks for those who lead our church and those whom God is calling to lead our church. Good Shepherd has an incredible history, but the reality is, as good as our history is, our best days are still in front of us!
Holy Scripture tells us that “Where there is no vision, the people perish” (Proverbs 29:18). Without godly men and women coming together to vision and plan for our future, our church would soon find itself on a course to demise. Praise be to God, the future of Good Shepherd continues to look bright as our flock continues to contribute to new and exciting ways to fulfill the Great Commission of bring the Good News of God’s saving grace to a darkened world in need of light.
This past Saturday, I had the blessing of spending the better part of the day with nine members of Good Shepherd’s leadership at our first ever leadership retreat. We spent over six hours working, praying, visioning, discussing, laughing, encouraging, planning and discerning God’s call for our church. It was one of those experiences that leaves one pumped up for the long term future while simultaneously leaving one feeling exhausted and drained because of the amount of effort that was put into the day.
We discussed a variety of topics, including but not limited to worship, finances, leadership, discipleship, pluses, minuses, evangelization, fund raising, the history of our church, the future of our church, mission, ministry, time, resources, personnel, progress, demographics, business operations, Sacred Texts, sacred cows and about 1,000 other things.
I wish to offer my personal prayers of thanksgiving for all who attended and ask that you too join me in offering prayers of gratitude for our church leaders who would sacrifice their Saturday for the future of our church. Those in attendance included: Margaret Aucoin, Mel Aucoin, Sandy Graci, Renee Graf, Carrie Mains, David Mains, Stan McDonald, Susan Schaff, Bob Volk and Sharon Wetzel.
Please remember to pray for your church, pray for your church leadership, pray for your pastor and pray for those souls whom the Lord will be sending our way to join the sheepfold of the Good Shepherd.
